Where Is Your Faith Base?

1 Corinthians 2:1 And when I came to you, brethren, I did not come with superiority of speech or of wisdom, proclaiming to you the testimony of God. 2 For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. 3 I was with you in weakness and in fear and in much trembling, 4 and my message and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 so that your faith would not rest on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God.

It is one thing to have faith and a total other thing to know who you have faith in and where your faith base is located.  If you have faith in yourself that faith is based on a weak foundation at best.  But, if you place your faith in Jesus Christ your base is strong and sure.  In writing to the church at Corinth Paul addressed where he was putting his faith and that was in the power of the Holy Spirit. Thus, Paul was living what is called a Spirit-filled life and that propelled him through the good and bad that he encountered on his travels.  In verse Paul talks brass tacks when in verse 2 he says, ” 2 For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified.”  To Paul that was enough and surely if that was enough for him it should be enough for each of us.  So when Paul spoke he relied totally on the Spirit of God  and the power of that Spirit to make the message plain, powerful, and persuasive.  In verse 5 Paul tells exactly what his base was “5 so that your faith would not rest on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God.”

So what is your faith base?  It should be like Paul’s and your faith should be based on the power of God and Him alone.  If we live a life like that the effect on our lives and the lives of others will be powerful and life-changing.  The triumph of faith based on the power of God is best illustrated in Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.  Live that kind of life and the world will see what Jesus intended to see in His followers.  Real faith!
