The Unquenchable

Matthew 3:4 John’s clothes were woven from coarse camel hair, and he wore a leather belt around his waist. For food, he ate locusts and wild honey. 5 People from Jerusalem and from all of Judea and all over the Jordan Valley went out to see and hear John. 6 And when they confessed their sins, he baptized them in the Jordan River. 7 But when he saw many Pharisees and Sadducees coming to watch him baptize, he denounced them. “You brood of snakes!” he exclaimed. “Who warned you to flee the coming wrath? 8 Prove by the way you live that you have repented of your sins and turned to God. 9 Don’t just say to each other, ‘We’re safe, for we are descendants of Abraham.’ That means nothing, for I tell you, God can create children of Abraham from these very stones. 10 Even now the ax of God’s judgment is poised, ready to sever the roots of the trees. Yes, every tree that does not produce good fruit will be chopped down and thrown into the fire. 11 “I baptize with water those who repent of their sins and turn to God. But someone is coming soon who is greater than I am—so much greater that I’m not worthy even to be his slave and carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. 12 He is ready to separate the chaff from the wheat with his winnowing fork. Then he will clean up the threshing area, gathering the wheat into his barn but burning the chaff with never-ending fire.”

In our present world, we tend to "hedge our bets" as the phrase goes. When something is found to be wrong we like to say "Well, it is mostly wrong, but not purely wrong." So if .you are betting on worldly reasoning to be the right kind of reasoning to the point of thinking that all people will go to heaven, you have missed the above scripture where John the Baptist explains to the religious leaders of the day that Jesus was going to be the defining standard for eternal life. What I mean by that is "believe in Jesus and receive Him as Savior and Lord and you will receive eternal life in heaven." If you do not believe in Jesus as Savior and Lord .your destination will be hell and the separation of the chaff from the wheat means that you want to go into the barn Jesus is gathering to.

In hell, scripture says is a never-ending or unquenchable fire for eternity and it is not a place that God wants you to go. The death of Jesus on the cross to make a choice possible for all who want to choose is God's way of making a way for all who believe to have heaven as their eternal home. Jesus talked about that home in John 14: 1 “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.2 There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? 3 When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.4 And you know the way to where I am going.”

There is a dividing line that defines perfectly the way to eternal life in heaven and God's offer is soaked with the blood of His Son, Jesus. God's way of reaching down to us is beyond compare and we have every opportunity to accept the gift He offers. But don't put off making a decision for a better time or a more convenient time to receive this great offer of eternal life in heaven, because we don't control time. God does! John's urgency in presenting the offer of salvation was coupled with a warning for all who hear his words. Today is the day of salvation, and we are literally burning daylight, because the days are getting away from you as I write this and The Unquenchable dividing fire was not meant for you, but for Satan and his angels. Turn away from your doubt and turn to Jesus by faith and receive Him today. John 1 says it this way 12 But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.13 They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.

The Apostle Paul wrote this to the church at Corinth in 1 Corinthians 6:1 As God’s partners, we beg you not to accept this marvelous gift of God’s kindness and then ignore it. 2 For God says, “At just the right time, I heard you. On the day of salvation, I helped you.”

Indeed, the “right time” is now. Today is the day of salvation.

1. Admit you are a sinner. and repent of your sin. 2. Believe that Jesus can save. 3. Receive Jesus as Savior and Lord with a simple prayer of faith.

*Romans 3:23 23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.

*Romans 5: 8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

*Romans 6: 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

*Romans 10: 9 If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.

*Romans 10: 13 For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
