The Restless Heart

Do you have a restless heart? If so, God is probably the cause of it, because He is directing you to follow Him into a new venture that needs the "drive" that only He can. A few years ago, God took me to a new place of clarity about what He wanted in my life, and He injected a restless attitude in my heart and mind that I have had trouble explaining to myself and to others. Another David, King David, had a restless heart, and He continued to fine-tune his relationship with the Father, as he sought God's heart in all the things he did. King David's heartfelt cries to God are echoed throughout the Psalms, but in Psalm 18 David pours out a grateful heart for the way God has given him strength and victory after victory in battle. Psalms 18:1“I love You, Lord, my strength.” The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my savior, My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised, And I am saved from my enemies.

God took that restless heart that He put in King David and He strengthened him, and God was David's rock and fortress. God's protection on David's life prompted David to totally take refuge in God alone. God became David's shield and horn of his salvation. His horn of salvation meant God was his fierce defender and that He fought David's battles for him. Wow!!

God gave you that restless heart, and in a world of apathy and indifference, you are a different person than most, but it is people like you who question the status quo and realign all of us to a thread that is attached to God's will for His people. You are a strong, important soldier in the war, and God has given you an attitude that will not settle for old half-truths and innuendos anymore, and He has made you restless so you will be settled in His Word alone. The whole counsel of God is the only truth that satisfies your longing for revival and awakening in a lost and dying world!! You are unique because God MADE you unique, so stay the course and BELIEVE only in who God has called YOU to be!!! The Apostle Paul became an influencer in his time because Jesus radically called Him out of the religious world he was representing and set him on a course that changed his world. Paul was also very restless and uniquely called, and easily doubted by many at the onset of his calling, but he followed through. Praise God for the restless heart He put in Paul.

Tozer writes: The human heart has a thirst for God. God created us, and something in us relates to something in God. Until these two are brought together, which happens at salvation, there is restlessness within the human heart that can never be stilled. This restlessness is seen in the world around us. The heart of the world is pulsating in a restless effort to discover the purpose of life, but it is always going in the wrong direction, away from God. God created us with a passion for himself, and it was the fall of man in the garden of Eden that hijacked that passion and brought man down to the level we find him today. Only through redemption—accomplished by Christ dying on the cross and rising the third day—can we be brought back to that place of fellowship with God, which is the passion of every human being.”
