Standing on the Word

Writer's picture: David WarrenDavid Warren

John 8:31 Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings.32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” In our flip flop world where everything is changing and nothing is certain anymore, there is one thing that is for certain and for real, and that is the Word of God. When all our human conclusions fall to the wayside and all of our preconceived plans melt like snow, there is the Word of God. It seems there must be a solution to going through this life of ups and downs that will be lasting and real, and true. THERE IS!! We stand on the Word of God. Jesus in the above verses said that is the choice we will make IF we are His disciples. We will remain faithful to His teachings, and we will know the truth, and the true will set us free. Free from the bondage of indecision. Free from the subjective truth of the world, Free from the philosophies of man. Free. Free. Free!! That kind of freedom, I can handle!!

The result of Standing on the Word is Standing for the Word! The Word becomes our living proof of our faith. Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. To quote a line from Young Frankenstein "IT'S ALIVE!!" And like Frankenstein the power it gives us brings us to life and that life is Good. Paul wrote this to Timothy about the lasting power of the Word of God. 2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work. So we can stand for the Word and know that we have a good stance. A stance ready for battle. A stance that is ready to proclaim. A stance that is true to the core. Romans11:33 33 Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!

The Word of God fills all of the empty places that cannot and will not be filled by the world. Colossians 3:16 Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. When we commit to stand on the Word we commit to stand on the rock that will never fall. The foundation that will last forever. The unwavering truth of God. Here is a final Word from Jesus on the subject. Matthew 7:24 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.26 But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand.27 When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.” "So when Jesus says this I must say, NAILED IT, and stop here.
