Plug in to the Power!!

plug in

When you plug into a wall plug, it accesses the mighty power of the whole electrical grid and it sends power to your lights and other devices.  That current is accessed by doing one thing.  Plugging in to the power!!!  Where is your power coming from and what are you plugged in to?

1 Peter 1:7 so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which is perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 8 and though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, 9 obtaining as the outcome of your faith the salvation of your souls.

If you have accepted Jesus and you have experienced life change you know the awesome peace and assurance that comes with that step of faith.  To know where you will spend eternity and that it will be with Jesus is a fantastic realization for all who are in Jesus.  Every day is a day of victory and every day is a great step of maturity about what life is really all about.  But, life can get tough from time to time and it’s constant struggles can get us down to the point that our faith is beaten up and haggard.   It is in those times when the realization of God’s strength is needed and yes, it is realized as the Holy Spirit ministers to our hearts in a very active way.  Scripture calls these tough times being tested by fire.  I will have to say my life britches have been burned quite a few times and it can get a little old from time to time.  I can get discouraged even though I know my eternal destiny is in Jesus Christ.   It is in these times when I need to get a perspective on what God is doing to me and through me.  In his first letter Peter brings to mind the whole process of living the believer’s life.

This life is filled with many times of testing, even by fire, and that testing’s outcome is to result in praise and glory and honor for Jesus Christ our Savior.  Personally I don’t like the testing so much, but I know it is necessary to build my faith and refine it until the return of our Lord.  That is the perspective. Now let’s look at the outcome.  In verse 8 Peter says that even though we have not seen Him, we love Him, and though we do not see Him now, we believe in Him and that causes something to happen.  WE REJOICE!!  Ok, so I have never seen Jesus and He is not present physically right now, but it makes me rejoice in Him.  That sounds a little crazy for my thinking, but the result of that developing of our faith through the testing takes us to a whole new level of thinking.  When we get to this level it helps us see life and our salvation in a whole new light.   The things that others might think are negative we see as positive and part of the whole growing experience as a believer.  To anyone who doesn’t have a growing relationship with Christ this will be difficult to grasp, but it compels us to look deeper into what God is doing to grow us up in His grace.

All of this takes very little input from us….just believe!  That means we trust all the big and little details to God and it changes our perspective on life itself.  It would be a sad thing to go through life and miss the whole experience because we are worrying and fretting over the details that we should not be thinking about.  Faith that is based on relying on God for everything is a growing faith that has a great outcome.  In verse 9 Peter says that the outcome is obtaining the salvation of our souls.  Total faith and trust in God is our input and salvation for our souls is the outcome.  What a great trade off!!  We have the sure salvation that gives us a living hope to live a life of victory.  This life, of course, was made possible by Christ giving His life to defeat sin, death, and the grave. Look at what the writer of Hebrews says in chapter 10:23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; 24 and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, 25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.

Here is the result of the trade.  We not only have the hope ourselves, but this hope is so evident it causes others to want it and that leads to salvation for their souls.  When one Christian gets together with another Christian they challenge each other to live more for Christ and that is also one of the reasons we must meet together as believers.  Satan has been attacking the assembling of believers heavily over the past few years and we have seen the result of believers not stimulating each other to good works by how much fighting has occurred in churches.  This living hope must take the place of complacent, getting by faith, and the vibrancy of our salvation must be seen at the forefront of everything we do.  We have the Spirit of encouragement in each of us as believers, but it cannot be put under a cover.  It must be seen and felt by all and then the heaviness we feel in our churches will be lifted and the strong power of God will be seen again.  Revival isn’t on the horizon.  Revival is HERE NOW!!  Just let it happen and celebrate Jesus and not our own wants and desires.  He is worthy of all our praise in whatever form it comes in.   If we focus our eyes on Him, our personal preferences will melt into the awesome glow of knowing Him and worshipping Him with other believers.  It takes very little input by us, but causes a great outcome through Jesus.

We may have messed things up, but Jesus has made all things right by His sacrifice.  May we realize His great truth and live out of the grace He has given us.  Romans 5:19 For as through the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the One the many will be made righteous.  Be obedient and give your life and faith as your input and then see the outcome of what may seem so small to you.  JUST BELIEVE!!

C.S. Lewis wrote Believing things ‘on authority’ only means believing them because you have been told them by someone you think trustworthy. Ninety-nine percent of the things you believe are believed on authority. I believe there is such a place as New York. I could not prove by abstract reasoning that there is such a place. I believe it because reliable people have told me so. The ordinary person believes in the solar system, atoms, and the circulation of the blood on authority–because the scientists say so. Every historical statement is believed on authority. None of us has seen the Norman Conquest or the defeat of the Spanish Armada. But we believe them simply because people who did see them have left writings that tell us about them; in fact, on authority. A person who balked at authority in other things, as some people do in religion, would have to be content to know nothing all his life.

We have the authority of the Word of God and we believe.  Live like it.  Plug into the power source that makes all this possible.  Plug into Jesus and see how He lights up your world.

The Pilgrimage continues…
