All I Need-If I Want It
Early in his career, Thomas Edison invented a vote-recording machine for use in legislative chambers. By moving a switch to the right or left, an official could vote for or against a proposal without leaving his desk. The machine would replace the tedious business of marking ballots, counting them, etc. Elated with the prospects, Edison obtained a patent -- his first -- and headed for Washington.
Eagerly he demonstrated his machine to the Chairman of Congressional Committees. This gentleman, while complimenting Edison on his ingenuity, promptly turned it down. "Filibustering and delay in the tabulation of votes are often the only means we have for defeating bad or improper legislation." he told Edison.
The young inventor was stunned. The invention was good; he knew it and the chairman knew it. Still, it wasn't wanted. Said Edison later: "There and then I made a vow that I would never again invent anything which was not wanted."
There is so much that God wants to show us through His Word and in the development of our daily walk with Him. It seems like I learn a new lesson every day. God has an endless supply of taking care of our needs when it come to learning about Him and His ways. In fact, God is very "on point" about sharing the mysteries of life with His children and it comes down to one thing. Do you want it?
Peter wrote about this in 2 Peter 1:3 By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.4 And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires. God has not left us in the dark about how to live the Godly life and His promises are made manifest when we learn to trust them and not turn away from them.
So what's the hold up? What's the delay in seeking these great truths and these great promises? Maybe the delay is "we don't really want them." Jesus said in Matthew 6:21 Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be. Thank the Lord He is patient with His children and continues to reach out to us with His mercy and His wisdom so that we might understand the depth of His wisdom. Paul wrote this to the church in Colossae. Colossians 2:2 I want them to be encouraged and knit together by strong ties of love. I want them to have complete confidence that they understand God’s mysterious plan, which is Christ himself.3 In him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Once again, all of this comes back to our relationship with Jesus. The understanding of God's mysterious plan is found in Jesus, because Jesus is the Word of God. When we come to understand this plan for our life the enemy has a much harder time distracting us with empty, human philosophies and the depth of our wisdom continues to grow.
We learn to to treasure the things of God and ignore the things of this world and we actually "find" ourselves in Jesus. The point is "Do I want that?" I hope you do and I hope you will reach out to God and connect with Him through His Word. You will find All You Need right there...If that is what you want.
The Pilgrimage continues.....
