Hebrews 10:19 Therefore, brethren, since we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus,20 by a new and living way which He inaugurated for us through the veil, that is, His flesh,21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God,22 let us draw near with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful;24 and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds,25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near.
Our assurance of faith is found in Jesus and that assurance far exceeds what the Law of Moses tried to do. That is the old way, but we have a new way that is made possible by the blood of the Lamb, Jesus Christ. With the Holy Spirit in our lives and the Word of God in our hands we can build on the foundation of grace provided by God. In addition, His Word becomes a huge part in our lives. Earlier in the chapter the writer says in verse 16 “This is the covenant that I will make with them After those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws upon their heart, And on their mind I will write them,” This covenant is a lasting covenant that becomes a major part in our decision-making, our daily walk, and the way we approach life at our core. We are "changed" at the deepest part of our being and that change begins an ongoing process to draw nearer to God. It is a new way of living. It far surpasses our weak effort to be a "good" person and that is further taught by Jesus when He said "there is no one good" but God. So put your pride britches back in the closet and live out of the changing of guard in in your life castle. ME OUT, Holy Spirit IN!!
When the Holy Spirit is in control He draws us closer to God and we come with a sincere heart that is willing to be changed. Verse 22 of the above scripture speaks to this very truth. We don't get this great forgiveness willy nilly, because Jesus is now in the throne room of our life. In Hebrews 10:29 the scripture says "29 How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled under foot the Son of God, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace? If you are going to insult anything or anyone, just make sure you are not insulting the Spirit of grace. This should propel us toward good works, and a life that is lived in that "change your life" relationship with Jesus. So when we are hit with the grace of God our response is love God and serve God. As you can see, one thing leads to another. The grace of God leads us to serve God and grow in our relationship. The law of Moses only led to Human efforts, that failed to approach God without Jesus as the go-between.
