Worthless

It is dangerous for believers to give worth to worthless things like idols, catch phrases, and second-hand false truths. God's Word is our pure and undefiled source of truth, and when we give worth to something that is quasi worthy, but not fully, we are diluting the pure truth of the Word of God. The meaning of the word Quasi is "as if" or "as it were," and it is attached to other words as an adjective, but still not the full story, no matter how much worth we attach to something that is quasi. It has a resemblance to the truth, but it is a totally compromised truth, which makes it worthless.

The Prophet Jeremiah, in speaking God's Words to the children of Israel, brought an indictment against them, and it was because they had compromised the truth and forgotten God's Laws. Jeremiah 2: 1The Lord gave me another message. He said, ² “Go and shout this message to Jerusalem. This is what the Lord says: “I remember how eager you were to please me as a young bride long ago, how you loved me and followed me even through the barren wilderness.³ In those days, Israel was holy to the Lord, the first of his children. All who harmed his people were declared guilty, and disaster fell on them. I, the Lord, have spoken!” Jesus spoke to the church of Ephesus in Revelation 2:² “I know all the things you do. I have seen your hard work and your patient endurance. I know you don’t tolerate evil people. You have examined the claims of those who say they are apostles but are not. You have discovered they are liars. ³ You have patiently suffered for me without quitting.

⁴ “But I have this complaint against you. You don’t love me or each other as you did at first! ⁵ Look how far you have fallen! Turn back to me and do the works you did at first. If you don’t repent, I will come and remove your lampstand from its place among the churches.

I think we can safely come to the conclusion that when God blesses, we should never take it for granted. When we praise Him and worship Him, sincerity should be paramount in our hearts cry, because God truly knows the heart and He can still see what we sometimes assume what he cannot see, which is the intent of the heart. In our world, we call this " fake news," and this news needs to be pure, and truth centered, and not filled with piety. In our faith walk we can sometimes get such a total belief in what we are "accomplishing" that we lose sight of the one who is really at the helm and His blessings should be felt and not just realized. I have said a quick "praise the lord" without truly realizing it in my heart as much as I should. It is an amazing thing for the God of the universe to respond and move just for me. Oh My Goodness!! God is worthy of our praises, so we should give those heartfelt praises to Him from a heart of love and thankfulness. We also begin to realize He is God and I am not!!

Further in Jeremiah 2, Jeremiah speaks as God prompts to further the Lord's point, and we see God's words in Jeremiah 2: ⁷ “And when I brought you into a fruitful land to enjoy its bounty and goodness, you defiled my land and corrupted the possession I had promised you. ⁸ The priests did not ask, ‘Where is the Lord?’ Those who taught my word ignored me, the rulers turned against me, and the prophets spoke in the name of Baal, wasting their time on worthless idols. ⁹ Therefore, I will bring my case against you,” says the Lord. “I will even bring charges against your children’s children in the years to come.

The Apostle Paul wrote to the church at Ephesus, to redeem the time, and part of that redeeming process is where we don't follow the worthless things, but follow the pure Word of God. Therein we find a worthy truth to base our faith walk on and live by its wisdom. Do not let the weak, subjective "truth" of the world have any bearing on the truth of the Word of God, and studying His Word is the first step to realizing pure truth to live our lives. Don't just read it, but study it, and you will find an inexhaustible source for living life.
