What's Your Offer? Fading Away!

Writer's picture: David WarrenDavid Warren

1 John 2: 15 Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. 16 For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father but are from this world. 17 And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.

What does the "world" have to offer you? Nothing. All it is offering is "fading away." You strive to get more and more of your desires and the value of everything begins to fade away. Why? Because it is not eternal and has no true value. The only true "original" is what God has to offer because He is the perfection of everything.

In the above scripture in verse 16 John says there are three things the world offers. 1. Craving for physical pleasure. 2. a craving for everything we see. 3. and pride in our achievements. Sounds like narcissism is on the loose and our desires compromise the value of everything. EVERYTHING. Only God can give us the lasting and valuable essence we long for in life and that is found in a personal relationship with Him. Why choose anything else? Go figure!

John goes on to identify that the three things are not from God. Can't get any more specific than what is said in verse 16b. Then John throws in the kicker in the whole message in verse 17 where he says: 17 And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever. Lesson to self: Do not bank your life on the weak and temporal things the world offers because even now they are fading away. Put. your trust in our Eternal God and you will shine better as every day goes by. The writer in Proverbs 4:19 says it this way 1The way of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, which shines ever brighter until the full light of day. 19 But the way of the wicked is like total darkness. They have no idea what they are stumbling over.

Just quit banking on the losing team and come to Jesus for the pure essence of life and ignore and even flee from the cravings the world gives you. Don't fade with the world but grow brighter and brighter with the power only God can give. It is an easy choice, so just make it for the smart choice. In 1 Corinthians 13 Paul writes 11 When I was a child, I spoke and thought and reasoned as a child. But when I grew up, I put away childish things. 12 Now we see things imperfectly, like puzzling reflections in a mirror, but then we will see everything with perfect clarity. Here is where God's three things are found.

1 Corinthians 13:13 Three things will last forever—faith, hope, and love—and the greatest of these is love.

Make your choice wisely!!

Vesselogical Out,
