Vision for Life - Foundation

A foundation is what we build a life on, and in the Christian life, this foundation is to be built on Jesus. He is not only Savior, but Lord, and our surrender to His will comes with a desire to serve Him and follow His Word. When Jesus called His first disciples, He called them from their vocation of fishing and told them they would be fishers of men. They had to commit to follow through, and they were never the same. It is still the same today. When you are born again, it is not just the end of the sin penalty in our life and a new home in glory. We become a new person who, in their heart, has a desire to follow Jesus, just like the first disciples. Now it is time to see where we go next as we build this new life on Jesus as our foundation.

In the book Vision for Life, the foundation has many change points for each of us. A Changepoint is where we have a new outlook on our life and want to establish our lives on God's word.

Foundation: This spiritual birth is our foundation, and it is built on Jesus.  The foundation results are as follows: Matthew 7: 24 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. 25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. 26 But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. 27 When the rains and floods come, and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”

Foundation change point 1 – Born again in the Spirit.

ResultRadical Life Change at your core.

Matthew 22: 36 “Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?” 37 Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”

Life Change - Our wants and needs are readjusted.

The Proverb that begins the journey is now applied and helps us adjust to follow Jesus and Him alone, and trust where he is taking you.  Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT) - Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.

Jesus is calling you to follow Him and Him alone. Matthew 16:24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be My follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. 25 If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for My sake, you will save it.

Life in the Spirit – God guides us in this journey as we live in a fallen world

When we begin this journey and establish Jesus as our foundation, we will learn to rely on Him and the Holy Spirit to equip us to fight the battles we face in life.  The Apostle Paul knew of these battles and that they are spiritual battles, so knowing the presence of the Spirit in your life is essential to following God’s direction, no matter what comes our way. Paul wrote about the need to fight the battles of the faith with the Holy Spirit.  Ephesians 3: 14 When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, 15 the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. 16 I pray that from His glorious, unlimited resources, He will empower you with inner strength through His Spirit. 17 Then Christ will make His home in your hearts as you trust in Him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.

Every good thing has a beginning, and establishing Jesus as our foundation is the best one ever. Read tomorrow's blog to further the process of laying the foundation of our faith. There is so much more to come!!

The Pilgrimage Continues,

David Warren
