Don't tell me that I'm crazy, Don't tell me I'm nowhere, Take it from me, It's hip to be square
It's hip to be square, It's hip to be square, It's hip to be square (lyrics to Too Hip to be Square-Huey Lewis and the News circa 1986)
Sometimes the Christian life may get a little taxing in the area of living a Godly life, but it is always the best way to live. Why? Because it is a life that lines up with the Bible and with the Savior who died to give us eternal life in heaven. Paul wrote to Timothy in 2 Timothy 3:12 Yes, and everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. Persecution comes in different forms, but that Godly life is the BEST way to live. I have seen people who are very "moral" try to live this life on their own merit and fail miserably, so it is nothing we can do. It is a life that is led and orchestrated by the Holy Spirit. But surrender is a must and surrender it will take to begin to see the born again reality of Godliness. Here is how Paul approached the subject in Romans 7:14 So the trouble is not with the law, for it is spiritual and good. The trouble is with me, for I am all too human, a slave to sin.15 I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate.16 But if I know that what I am doing is wrong, this shows that I agree that the law is good.17 So I am not the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it.
So even though being what the world may call a "square" is not the latest trend or meme, just remember that the "better" life is the life that is led by the Holy Spirit. Paul addresses what seems to be the impossible mission by saying in Romans 7:4 Oh, what a miserable person I am! Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death? 25 Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God’s law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin. Everything comes back to Jesus!! That should not a be a shocker to any believer, but it might be. Paul knew that the old man, or natural man would come back from time to time to haunt the new existence lived in Christ. But He also knew that Christ was Lord and could conquer anything that came our way.
So the summary should read like this. Follow Christ, rely on Christ, put your life in Christ, trust Christ, and just let Christ live through you. Colossians 3:Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. 2 Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. 3 For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.
Living for Christ means we are Too Hip to be Square!!!
The Pilgrimage continues...
