The Treasure in My Heart

Treasure (def) - used as a verb: "Something valued or thought highly of." There are a few things I treasure on this earth, but I do treasure my wife, my children, and my grandchildren. I also treasure true good friends, my music, my writings, and a studio to make more music in the future. I treasure my relationship with my Savior, Jesus, most of all. Jesus was making the point to His followers early on that it was important to treasure the "right" things.

Matthew 6: 19 “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. 21 Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be. Temporal things shouldn't mean too much to us, and definitely not more to us than eternal things.

It seems Jesus and Paul constantly try to get me to "look up" in my thinking and it what I truly treasure. Paul said it this way to the church in Colossae in Colossians 3:Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. The life we live here on earth can really try to weigh our thoughts down at times, and if not for my relationship with Jesus, I would get depressed, anxious, and live a life with no peace. God equipped us with the Holy Spirit to live a life of hope that is unachievable without Jesus. But WITH Jesus we experience not only temporal hope, but a hope that is in our heart, and I treasure that so much. Don't you? Of course you do! Paul said of this peace that it is beyond our understanding, but we have it!! This peace also guards what we treasure in our hearts, as God not only gives us peace, but keeps on giving more and more. Why? Cause we need it! Philippians 4:Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Tap into this peace that God gives us in our hearts and open your heart to what God is trying to tell you in your life, and you will be given an understanding of the mysteries of God.

God is near and dear and working in our hearts, so treasure Him. A.W. Tozer wrote the following quote “We need never shout across the spaces to an absent God. He is nearer than our own soul, closer than our most secret thoughts." God is near, so treasure Him today while you may and ask Him to guard the treasure you have in your heart, because you need it. Proverbs 4:23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
