The Faith Vein

I have heard of numerous cases in people's lives when they have had a blockage in their arteries and blood will not flow and the end result is a heart attack. Scarey stuff, but as they say in medicine commercials, "It can be avoided!" Blood in our bodies is meant to flow and flow freely to supply the rest of the body with nourishment in some form or another. However, the blockage can constrict blood flow and cause major health risks to the person. Our faith is a lot like this because those who know Jesus are to pass Him along to others and that process can be compromised if we allow blockages to form in The Faith Vein.

First of all, when I say The Faith Vein I am speaking of passing on the truths of God's Word to those who are new to the faith. We call it discipleship or mentoring. Whatever you call it, it is vital to the work of Jesus and the work of the church. When a person is born again they are like a newborn baby and they have the Holy Spirit, but if not mentored their faith will not grow and their "faith vein" will begin to block and not supply that much-needed faith to all of their life. All of the joy and hope of receiving Jesus will wane over time and if they are not mentored in the early season of their faith, they might even fall away from the faith because of a lack of growth. Peter speaks to this faith growth in 1 Peter 2:2 where he says 2 Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment. Our faith needs nourishment and our faith needs to grow so The Faith Vein will continue to keep from being blocked by not passing this faith along.

Paul had a solution for making this a priority to Timothy and in 1 Timothy 2:2 He writes

1 Timothy, my dear son, be strong through the grace that God gives you in Christ Jesus.2 You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others. The truths Paul is speaking about are found in God's Word and since the Word of God is living the truths will be living and growing as well. To mentor someone in the faith is to pass it along from one person to another in open conversation and learn from the Word of God. To fail to do this causes a great blockage in The Faith Vein and the message can fall to the wayside if not passed on and taught. Paul gave his life to not only sharing this message of hope but also leading others to do the same and thus the message got out to the whole world and continues to be heard today, some 2000 years later. Mentoring new believers will only make that message flow even more freely without any blockages. The end result will be a revival in the heart of "the church" to grow new converts and teach them God's Word and a very supernatural thing will happen. The lost will begin to hear the message of salvation and new converts will multiply, not just be added to the kingdom. Spiritual multiplication will occur and God will bless it as we grow those new converts in the Word and The Faith Vein will then flow freely again.

What will it take to make this all happen? Just a commitment to mentor another convert who has not had the opportunity to be discipled by another believer. I have seen the effect firsthand of this mentoring process and it works, and it only takes a little time out of a person's week to do it, but the result is awesome! So let's keep The Faith Vein healthy and flowing by mentoring a new convert or even someone who has never been mentored in the faith and see them and you grow in the faith together. The results will be life-changing and lasting for both you and the person you are mentoring.

Here is your prescription for keeping The Faith Vein clean and flowing. Get into God's Word and either mentor another person or be mentored by someone further along in their faith walk and see the growth that happens. It will be like a miracle in your and their life! Be a good Timothy and DO IT!
