Spiritual DNA

There is a big move to find out what our blood will say about our family background. I took the ancestry test and it showed a lot of British and Irish background in it. I found it very interesting what my family background showed and I immediately started identifying with my Irish heritage. One test and all of sudden I am very upfront about defending my Irish heritage to the point of wanting to defend the Irish. You may not be as "jump off in the water head first" as I am, but you probably also have a little allegiance to your background at some level.

If you are a born-again believer you have a very rich, in fact, eternal heritage given to you by another bloodline. The bloodline of Jesus our Savior. In John 3:1-8 scripture says There was a man named Nicodemus, a Jewish religious leader who was a Pharisee. 2 After dark one evening, he came to speak with Jesus. “Rabbi,” he said, “we all know that God has sent you to teach us. Your miraculous signs are evidence that God is with you.”3 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.” 4 “What do you mean?” exclaimed Nicodemus. “How can an old man go back into his mother’s womb and be born again?” 5 Jesus replied, “I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. 6 Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life. 7 So don’t be surprised when I say, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows wherever it wants. Just as you can hear the wind but can’t tell where it comes from or where it is going, so you can’t explain how people are born of the Spirit.”

Jesus told Nicodemus what it takes to be born-again, and even a learned religious leader could not grasp this very eternal truth. Of course, Jesus told him a mystery of God that was revealed through Jesus, the Son of God. Jesus was speaking to our 'spiritual DNA" not our human DNA. Our family blood will do nothing to get us to heaven, but the blood of Jesus shed for us will get us an eternal home in glory, and we will see the Kingdom of God. The words of Jesus, not mine, so we can trust those words.

The result of our human DNA will be family characteristics like our looks, the thickness of our hair, the color of our eyes, work habits, and many more "blood" characteristics. Those family traits will not get us to heaven and we will fail far short when it comes to the life we need to live for that promise. We need the blood of Jesus that takes away our sins and makes us right with our heavenly Father and that blood changes us at our core, or soul. In John 1:12 But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.13 They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God. We are children of God because of the bloodline and that blood was shed on the cross at Calvary for us. But the effect of that blood doesn't stop when we receive Jesus. That beautiful exchange, our sin for His redemption, has so much more to it.

The Apostle Paul knew this change and his meeting Jesus on the Damascus Road changed Him COMPLETELY and the world was never the same after that change took place. Paul wrote this in 2 Corinthians 5: 17 This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! The effect of this new life is awesome and abundantly clear. There is fruit that is seen from this exchange. In Galatians, Paul speaks of the fruit, or result of this new life that the Holy Spirit produces in our life. Galatians 5:22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! And since we take on a new form there is a new person that is birthed and that person has a result that is different than the old one. 2 Corinthians 5:21 For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ. Keep in mind, all of this is possible because of Jesus and none of it is because of us. We just receive Him and He forgives and changes us at our soul level.

But in this change, there is an old nature that fights to keep us from realizing and living in this great faith relationship and the enemy is in charge of that problem. But God has taken care of that problem also by giving us the Holy Spirit and His Word to live within us and show us the real truth of living. The righteousness of God in us is sparked by the Holy Spirit and God's Word and we are compelled to live this abundant life in victory and power. Our spiritual DNA is always influencing us toward God and in the midst of trouble we cry out "Abba Father" and God hears us and responds as only He can do.

I know this may be a little hard to receive and believe in so you need to do a Spiritual DNA test and get into the living Word of God and see what God says about you and the bloodline of Jesus, the spiritual bloodline. God promises that if you look for the answers He will give them to you and Jesus Himself said this in Matthew 7:7 “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you.8 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.

Just a caution. Don't seek God with a human-influenced filter in place. We need to learn to see things through the spiritual lens that God has given every believer and then you will realize a life of faith you never thought possible. God wants us to believe and He will reward that faith by coming through. EVERY TIME!

The Pilgrimage Continues.
