What is shadow living? It is living under a canopy of whatever and that canopy can give protection, hide us from the outside, and give us a vantage point of looking from darkness to light. I will speak to the protection of the shadow and the looking from darkness into light aspects.
Psalm 91:1 Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. When God protects us and we place our trust and our lives in His hands He places us under His watchful care and protection. The scripture above is a conclusion from the writer about God's protection in times of sickness and immediate trouble. The writer speaks to trusting in His care in every situation. It is a call also to trust God in our darkest hours and in that trust know that God "Has our back."
Living in a world that is so "me" centered can cause us to lose trust in anything and anyone. The words in this Psalm are a reminder that God is still in control and we are covered by the protection only He can give. Even though the writer of the Psalm is anonymous, this truth is far from anonymous. We trust God and His protection and pray for His shelter in these tough times because He is here. We are under the shadow of His care. When God's shadow covers us we are reminded that "All is well."
Shadows can also be bad in such a way as to give evil a place of attack on those living in the light. When a person lives in darkness and doesn't want to be revealed for who they are they will slump back into the shadow of darkness and that is where they will do their battle. Evil is their motivation and they don't want to have that discovered so they do all of their fighting from the shadow of darkness. These people use darkness to fight their battles and they truly believe they are justified in their evil because they are not seen in the light. The scripture below helps illustrate the intent of these "shadow people" and what they hope to accomplish. These people shoot from the cover of darkness and wound any who are in the light and then they act like they did not do it. Deception at its lowest.
Psalm 11:2 The wicked are stringing their bows and fitting their arrows on the bowstrings. They shoot from the shadows at those whose hearts are right.
That kind of shadow living just breeds more like it and as they add more converts they are spreading more and more evil and the shadows extend even further causing more and more damage. These are the people who get in small circles and laugh at others to elevate themselves, not realizing they are elevating evil and hurting others as they go.
Decide today which shadow you live under and I would highly recommend living under the shadow of our Holy God who protects and empowers and leads us to righteousness.
Vesselogical Out,
David Warren
