Resurrection and Life-Part 1

ree

John 11:17 When Jesus arrived at Bethany, he was told that Lazarus had already been in his grave for four days.18 Bethany was only a few miles down the road from Jerusalem, 19 and many of the people had come to console Martha and Mary in their loss. 20 When Martha got word that Jesus was coming, she went to meet him. But Mary stayed in the house. 21 Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22 But even now I know that God will give you whatever you ask.” 23 Jesus told her, “Your brother will rise again.” 24 “Yes,” Martha said, “he will rise when everyone else rises, at the last day.”25 Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. 26 Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die. Do you believe this, Martha?”

Sometimes we need a little nudge in our info and our faith to focus us on the important things that Jesus teaches. Martha had a conversation with Jesus about Lazarus, and in that conversation, her attitude about Lazarus rising again was, in general terms, true. Jesus was being very specific with what He was presenting, and the man standing in front of her was the Messiah in the flesh, and she was seeing in the present the hope of eternity. Keep in mind that Jesus called out the name of Lazarus, and if He had said "come forth" all the dead would have been resurrected. He will call all the dead in Christ to be resurrected when He comes back, and that will happen just as He promised. Jesus is the Resurrection and the Life. Jesus led her to a deeper understanding that showed her this man in front of her was the Messiah, and in being the Messiah, He was also God, with the power to bring the dead to life.
