If you have ever been in a totally dark area you understand the difference a little light can make. I mean total darkness!! I come into a house with no lights at dusk and say "Boy, it is dark in here!" Oh, that isn't dark. That is just subdued light... Paul wrote to the Christians at Ephesus and in that writing he commented on their strong faith and love for God's people. Then he went on to say he was praying for them. His prayer was for spiritual wisdom and insight so they could grow in the Lord even more. Here are the verses Ephesians 1:15 Ever since I first heard of your strong faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for God’s people everywhere,16 I have not stopped thanking God for you. I pray for you constantly,17 asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God.18 I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.
So Paul's prayer was for their hearts to be flooded with light and when that happens an understanding and a cofident hope occurs for people of the faith. We sometimes we get to thinking we know everything we need to know about our faith in God. But there is so much more God wants to show us, but we need light to see it. Light in our hearts. We are changed from the inside out, but we live in a world that is trying to change us from the outside in because our enemy the devil doesn't have our hearts anymore because Jesus is in that place. So take Jesus at His Word and let him show light in the dark areas of your heart and true, spiritual understanding will take place.
I went "caving" for a time when I was in high school and the first time I entered a cave I forgot my light and I wasn't in 20 feet until I realized I was in trouble. So these words came out of my mouth to the ones entering behind me. "I need a light in here!!" Maybe there are some dark areas in your life that are affecting you from the inside out and you, like me, need a light from Jesus to shine in those areas and give you some newfound hope in your life. This might be your prayer. Lord Jesus flood my heart with your light so I can find my way through these dark times. He will "flood" your heart with understanding, insight, along with peace and hope, and shine His light to show the way.
