Draw Me Close
James 4:8 Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.
The Request: James is asking those reading this to come close to God.
Psalm 145: 18 The Lord is close to all who call on him, yes, to all who call on him in truth.
*Key words - calling on Him
The Result: God will come close to you.
Psalm 116: 4 Then I called on the name of the Lord: “Please, Lord, save me!” 5 How kind the Lord is! How good he is! So merciful, this God of ours!
The Reason: Their loyalty is divided between God and the world.
Colossians 3: 1 Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. 2 Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. 3 For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.
The Reminder: Loyalty needs to be to God and God alone.
Matthew 16: 24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. 25 If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.
The Remedy: Hand washing from sin is the fix for the problem.
1 John 1: 9 But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
The question is “How close do you want to be to God?
