Here's Mud In Your Eye

John 9:1 As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man who had been blind from birth. “Rabbi,” his disciples asked him, “why was this man born blind? Was it because of his own sins or his parents’ sins?” “It was not because of his sins or his parents’ sins,” Jesus answered. “This happened so the power of God could be seen in him. We must quickly carry out the tasks assigned us by the one who sent us. The night is coming, and then no one can work. But while I am here in the world, I am the light of the world.” Then he spit on the ground, made mud with the saliva, and spread the mud over the blind man’s eyes. He told him, “Go wash yourself in the pool of Siloam” (Siloam means “sent”). So the man went and washed and came back seeing! His neighbors and others who knew him as a blind beggar asked each other, “Isn’t this the man who used to sit and beg?” Some said he was, and others said, “No, he just looks like him!” But the beggar kept saying, “Yes, I am the same one!” 10 They asked, “Who healed you? What happened?” 11 He told them, “The man they call Jesus made mud and spread it over my eyes and told me, ‘Go to the pool of Siloam and wash yourself.’ So I went and washed, and now I can see!”

What do we do with Jesus healing people? It's ok. I can explain it away. Scientifically, the mud had healing elements in it that are found to heal eyes. Probably what scripture calls blind is actually just bad eyesight and the mud reacted like a cleansing agent to cause the man to see. Also, it may have just improved his eyesight to where he could see a little more clearly. He may have gone from 20/40 to 20/30 and thought he was totally healed..

Wait! What? This man had been blind from birth. Could not see...BLIND. The mud was mud like any other mud and did not do anything to help his blindness. Jesus healed him of his blindness, and a man who could not see anything from birth could now see clearly. Why heal him? Here is what verse 3 said “It was not because of his sins or his parents’ sins,” Jesus answered. “This happened so the power of God could be seen in him. When we glorify God, great things happen, and God gets the credit for it. When God blesses me in some way, I don't pat myself on the back. I say, "God did it" because He deserves the glory, not me. This doesn't mean I have a good spiritual attitude and I am special. It just means "God did it!" Nuff said.

I believe if we would pray with a faith as a mustard and keep ourselves out of it we would see God do even more. Our problem is we begin to believe it is about the one praying instead of who we are praying to. Jesus was speaking about what it takes to get to heaven and His disciples were asking how anyone can get there and this is what Jesus said in Matthew 19:26 Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.” The healing of Jesus is not meant to puff up our spiritual feelings about ourselves because that glorifies us. We must leave "us" out of the whole thing and give God glory.

This scripture reference is a little long but very necessary to keep how God works in all things in the right perspective. King David was blessed tremendously by God and God fought his battles and David knew it. Here is David's prayer in 2 Samuel 7: 18 Then King David went in and sat before the Lord and prayed, “Who am I, O Sovereign Lord, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far?19 And now, Sovereign Lord, in addition to everything else, you speak of giving your servant a lasting dynasty! Do you deal with everyone this way, O Sovereign Lord? 20 “What more can I say to you? You know what your servant is really like, Sovereign Lord.21 Because of your promise and according to your will, you have done all these great things and have made them known to your servant.22 “How great you are, O Sovereign Lord! There is no one like you. We have never even heard of another God like you! 23 What other nation on earth is like your people Israel? What other nation, O God, have you redeemed from slavery to be your own people? You made a great name for yourself when you redeemed your people from Egypt. You performed awesome miracles and drove out the nations and gods that stood in their way.[d] 24 You made Israel your very own people forever, and you, O Lord, became their God. 25 “And now, O Lord God, I am your servant; do as you have promised concerning me and my family. Confirm it as a promise that will last forever. 26 And may your name be honored forever so that everyone will say, ‘The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is God over Israel!’ And may the house of your servant David continue before you forever. 27 “O Lord of Heaven’s Armies, God of Israel, I have been bold enough to pray this prayer to you because you have revealed all this to your servant, saying, ‘I will build a house for you—a dynasty of kings!’ 28 For you are God, O Sovereign Lord. Your words are truth, and you have promised these good things to your servant. 29 And now, may it please you to bless the house of your servant, so that it may continue forever before you. For you have spoken, and when you grant a blessing to your servant, O Sovereign Lord, it is an eternal blessing!”

You don't have to be a Theologian to see what happened here. God came through in a mighty way for a very powerful and blessed servant of God and David said "God did it!" David knew it was God because David was a man after God's own heart and part of the deal is him knowing where his power comes from and He gives glory to the holder of that power. David did not try to inject his military genius into the quotient because that means nothing in comparison to what almighty God does when He moves. If you try to explain away God when He comes through for you "Here's Mud in Your Eye." You are blinded to the FACT that God is still working and God is still moving, so get out of His way and let Him move through you and then say these words "God did it!" Because He did!

I see God healing people all the time whether we believe it or not and I believe for God to do even greater things BECAUSE HE CAN. Ask Jesus to remove the mud from your eye so you can once again realize and see God moving and give Him praise for it. God is real. God still heals. God can still move the mountains in our lives. God is The Great I Am.
