A Clear Vision

Writer's picture: David WarrenDavid Warren

You will see me writing about having a clear vision for living our lives and it is a point I can never quit thinking about and making it a priority!! I even wrote a book called Vision Maker, so you know I am serious about having a personal vision for our lives. Our vision for living our lives should come from the Vision Maker Jesus, but sometimes we don't even realize that a vision is possible or we have no desire for a vision. When we think vision, we might think dream, but is so much more. T.E. Lawrence said it this way about visions or dreamers: T.E. Lawrence once said, "All men dream but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds awake to the day to find it was all vanity. But the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for the many act out their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible..." I want to be a "dreamer of the day" with my eyes wide open and my heart receptive to the dream giver, Jesus.

One example of God giving a vision to someone in the Bible is in the vision given to the Prophet Habbakuk in Habbakuk 2: Then the Lord said to me, “Write my answer plainly on tablets, so that a runner can carry the correct message to others. This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed. Some points of the vision in the scripture above are as follows: 1. Habbakuk was complaining about evil seemingly winning out at every turn and he even attempted to bargain with God. Not a good thing to do. 2. God in his wonderful mercy replied to Habbakuk with a vision for future things that were going to come and let him in on the future in this vision. No details, but letting him know that God is in control and not caught off guard. 3. Habbakuk was a prophet so he was used to spending time with God and felt close enough to even question God and God answered him with this vision. 4. God told Habbakuk to share the vision with others who would listen to him and to have patience because God's plan was for the good stuff to come slowly, but it was coming!! Praise God! 5. The vision was designed to show that God was still speaking and God was still moving and they could trust God to make everything right again.

Still think we don't need a vision? We not only need a vision, we need a clear vision. Andra noticed a while back that her vision was getting noticeably worse and when she went to an eye doctor they told her she had cataracts and needed to have eye surgery. She had both her eyes worked on at two separate times and her vision is almost perfect now. Had she not. had the surgery or even gone to the eye doctor she would have languished with limited eyesight. The first part of the process was her realizing "something is wrong with my eyes" and then she went to a doctor who could look at them. Then the doctor told her the procedure and she succumbed to the surgery and her vision came back more clear than ever.

Since we all need a pure vision for our lives we should spend time with God and ask him to diagnose our present spiritual condition and see if our spiritual eyes are compromised. God's Word is the place to go, along with prayer, and allow God to do a heart check. If your spiritual vision is compromised it is time to ask God to show you His ways and submit to His will afresh and anew and He will do the surgery needed to take you back to your first love, Jesus. Then you will be able to see the way, have a clearer vision for your life, and grow in your faith. Paul wrote about his very subject in Ephesians 1:18 I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.

Just remember, we cannot play games with God when it comes to getting this vision I am talking about because this is our very life purpose and we must be willing to "take up our cross and follow Him" no matter the direction. Anything less is stumbling around in the dark.

Proverbs 4:19 says the following Proverbs 4:18 The way of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, which shines ever brighter until the full light of day. 19 But the way of the wicked is like total darkness. They have no idea what they are stumbling over. Since we have our righteousness from God, we will choose verse 18 and shine brighter every day. That ability to shine comes from God and that means His vision for your life is progression and always changing, so learn to "live in the flow!" The old term goes as follows "Let go and let God!" Bob Logan wrote this: Vision: the capacity to create a compelling picture of the desired state of affairs that inspires people to respond; that which is desirable, which could be, should be; that which is attainable.  A godly vision is right for the times, right for the church, and right for the people. A godly vision promotes faith rather than fear. A godly vision motivates people to action. A godly vision requires risk-taking. A godly vision glorifies God, not people.

Let God create a new vision-centered heart in you and then get serving. The prospects are endless, but you will never realize them without taking that first step and going to our Spiritual Doctor for a heart/eye check-up. Make your appointment today and the rest will be wonderful clear-eyed history. C'mon. You know you want to see better. Get rid of those spiritual cataracts.

Vesselogical Out,

David Warren
