Who are you pointing to in your life, and is it Jesus? If it is, then you are drawing attention to the hope of the world, and He will not disappoint. John the Baptist had his followers, but he needed to decrease and Jesus must increase. John 1:35 The following day John was again standing with two of his disciples. 36 As Jesus walked by, John looked at him and declared, “Look! There is the Lamb of God!”37 When John’s two disciples heard this, they followed Jesus.38 Jesus looked around and saw them following. “What do you want?” he asked them. They replied, “Rabbi” (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?”39 “Come and see,” he said. It was about four o’clock in the afternoon when they went with him to the place where he was staying, and they remained with him the rest of the day.
We live in a very "me first" world, and many who should be glorifying and lifting up Jesus are lifting up themselves and "living in the glow" of God blessing them. John the Baptist knew who he was and what his role was in kingdom work. In the above verses we get a very good illustration of how much more we should follow and honor Jesus than anyone else, and "person worship" is not allowed in any form in kingdom work. All of us should point to Jesus and Him alone.
When God shows up, our first inclination must be "Jesus did it" and go from there, and that will keep us pointing to Jesus. The greatest "Jesus did it"is found in John 19 where the scripture says the following. John 19: 28 Jesus knew that his mission was now finished, and to fulfill Scripture he said, “I am thirsty.” 29 A jar of sour wine was sitting there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put it on a hyssop branch, and held it up to his lips. 30 When Jesus had tasted it, he said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. Some Christians are so into their own religious attitude to make them seem as holy as possible, they will even say a "praise the Lord" when in reality they are very proud of "their" part of the whole thing instead of giving all praise to Jesus. The draw of religious people is to "fluff" their pride in a "spiritual" way, but in reality, they are drawing praise to themselves, which is wrong. Highly religious people are experts at taking credit for things Jesus alone does, and it becomes a closet lifestyle. What I mean is they are experts at fake humility and false religious self-worship. We had nothing to do with the saving of mankind from the penalty of our sins; it was only Jesus, and it will continue to be only Jesus who gets all praise. No one else!!
Pointing to Jesus points away from us, and gives a lost and dying world the best option for their life. When pointing people toward the best option in their life we must say LOOK and point all people to Jesus. Paul wrote this to the church in Rome and it hits home in a big way. Romans 14:11 For the Scriptures say, “‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bend to me, and every tongue will declare allegiance to God.’”
