When watching mystery shows we get a glimpse into the world of evidence. One huge part of the world of evidence is getting a DNA match from a crime scene and matching it with a suspect. It seems the easiest way to get a DNA test is from saliva inside the mouth, but there are other ways to get that DNA. Blood is a very credible way to get a match through DNA and that lines up with the evidence in a believer's life as well.
1 John 1:7 says but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. If you have accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord and believed by faith your DNA test will show a "child of God" through the blood of Jesus. Galatians 4:6 Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” 7 Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.
That blood that covers our sin, purifies us from the penalty of sin per the above scripture. Part of that purification is a resulting life that is bearing much fruit and that fruit is listed in Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.24 Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
So the Christian life is not just a bunch of "don'ts, but it is also a bunch of dos. Those dos show that we are a match with Jesus, and that match is only possible by the blood of Jesus. That may sound a little confusing, but in reality it makes all the sense in the world. In the last supper we hear the words of Jesus as He says in Matthew 26:28 for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins. We have a blood covenant initiated by the one who shed His blood for that covenant. So we are connected to Jesus and His blood gives us a new and powerful life that is different than any human blood in our system. Our DNA that ties us to our earthly family is trumped by the spiritual DNA given to us by God. I believe my dad was a great man, but the DNA of that human connection is not what I want to be seen in my life. I want the DNA spiritual connection I have with Jesus, which is so much different, to be seen in my life. I am not discounting my "raising" or my "memories" of my childhood. Those things are no longer the priority for me. Some may say "He is just like His dad!" To which I would say "which one?" My earthly father, who was a great man, or my heavenly Father, who is the God of the universe and the creator of all things.
Joel Engle, a good friend of mine wrote a song from his own life experience that brings all of this into focus. The lyrics are as follows: Verse 1 There's a little child inside this man, who still does not understand Why momma had to die, she didn't say goodbye Daddy left without a trace, I never even saw his face Was I to blame, I still feel the pain of a heart shattered like glass that cut my soul to pieces I never thought I would love again, until I met you Jesus
Chorus You're the Father I never had And Your love never changes, through the good times and the bad You're the Father I never had Just hold me in Your arms and heal me of the past and be the Father I never had.
No matter how you were "raised", if you are a believer in Jesus Christ your heavenly Father is teaching a new way to live that is not based on human thinking, but on heavenly living. If your spiritual DNA test shows a connection with Him through the blood of Jesus you will think, walk, talk, and live differently. Hebrews 9:4 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? We LOOK right to God, because we ARE right with God through Jesus and that shows up in our Spiritual DNA.
