This morning we awoke to fog. Our drastic temperature change has played havoc by sending a dense fog the last two mornings. In our part of the country, we have seen a multitude of high 90’s and not much rain, but all of that changed last week with a good “soaking” rain and then it happened. The temperature dropped about 35 degrees from one day to the next and from there on we have had “morning” fog. Usually, the fog is gone by about mid-morning, but today it is hanging around a little longer. Some causes of the fog in our part of the country are cold air overlaying warm air near the warm river surface and that lends itself to rising air. The mixing of cool air chills the warmer, more moist air immediately above the river to allow condensation and a cloud to form. Thus, FOG.
In James 4:13-16 scripture says 13 Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.”14 How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. 15 What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” 16 Otherwise, you are boasting about your own pretentious plans, and all such boasting is evil.
I have been guilty at times of “sitting on my laurels” and the past accomplishments really don’t last long enough to even enjoy or reminiece, but I try to do it anyway. Oh, I do praise the Lord for things He has done in the past, but I cannot rely on those things to last very long, so God perks me up to the next thing. Every day is an adventure with the Lord and every moment is an opportunity to see God do something extraordinary. John called this the abundant life in John 10:10. But, the abundant life is not built around living off our past, but pursuing each day with a passion to love God, serve God, and experience God in a fresh new way. It sounds exciting, but all of that can end like the fog leaving at mid-morning. So where does that leave us? Looking for the next adventure.
I am a dreamer and my dreamer mentality can become very counter-productive in life choices at times. My dreamer attitude can also come across as flighty and immature, but in reality, God feeds dreamers!! The dreamer has to have divine guidance though and that vision is an ongoing vision and never dies. Unlike morning fog God’s guidance is a constant that we must rely on and follow. Proverbs 29:18 says When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild. But whoever obeys the law is joyful. Divine guidance should be our course of life that never lets up and never clears. It is not temporary but is ever refreshing again and again with a new, fresh way of looking at life in complete faith and purpose. In Exodus 9:16 God shared this with Pharoah 6 But I have spared you for a purpose—to show you my power and to spread my fame throughout the earth. God told Moses to share these very words with Pharoah and the indictment on Pharoah was an opportunity for God to show the world that He is all-powerful as a witness for all who hear about His power. Don’t you think it is about time to start believing once again in the awesome power of God? When we set our lives to the purposes of God we are establishing that living for God, and only God is my purpose in life.
If you follow the world’s way of thinking and have confidence in yourself you will have your days of glory and you will try to live off that for your life, but it is only temporary, as the morning fog. It too will soon be gone and you will be back in the same shape as before and your confidence in self will be short-lived. Put your trust in the Lord and Him alone and you will realize great victories again and again and God will be glorified in your life. Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT) Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. 6 Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
Keep your purpose in front of you by understanding what God has purposed you to do with your life and you will find that is real life.
The Pilgrimage continues….
