The Power of Wisdom Is Awesome!!!

Writer's picture: David WarrenDavid Warren

Man's desire for knowledge has led us down a path that is easily compromised because our knowledge goes through the filter of our understanding and that filter leaves out God-sized solutions to the questions of life. Without falling off a deep cliff, let me explain. God's wisdom is so far beyond what we realize and the power of tapping into that wisdom is an awesome experience. The Apostle Paul was seeking God's wisdom all along the ten thousand miles he traveled as he proclaimed the salvation of mankind through no one else but Jesus Christ. Read from 2 Corinthians 11 some of the trials Paul faced in his travels and you tell me if Paul needed this Godly wisdom or not? ! I have worked harder, been put in prison more often, been whipped times without number, and faced death again and again.24 Five different times the Jewish leaders gave me thirty-nine lashes.25 Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked. Once I spent a whole night and a day adrift at sea.26 I have traveled on many long journeys. I have faced danger from rivers and from robbers. I have faced danger from my own people, the Jews, as well as from the Gentiles. I have faced danger in the cities, in the deserts, and on the seas. And I have faced danger from men who claim to be believers but are not. 27 I have worked hard and long, enduring many sleepless nights. I have been hungry and thirsty and have often gone without food. I have shivered in the cold, without enough clothing to keep me warm.

So when a man like Paul says to seek Godly wisdom, I don't know about you but I'm gonna listen to him and here is what he told the church at Ephesus in Ephesians 1:15 Ever since I first heard of your strong faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for God’s people everywhere, 16 I have not stopped thanking God for you. I pray for you constantly, 17 asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God. 18 I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance. 19 I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power 20 that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.

The key word in all of this is the word "understand." Many times in my life I have read God's Word as a spiritual exercise and just not "understood" the power of what it is saying. If we want to tap into God's wisdom about living our life, then it needs to be more than a mundane habitual exercise. We can read scripture and never get any wisdom from it, but feel good because we have Bible knowledge. I'm here to tell you that is just not good enough!! If someone tells you it is, then they are lying and they just don't understand themselves. Here is an example. The church at Ephesus was known as a church of strong faith and that was something known everywhere, but Paul felt compelled to pray for them to get MORE of God's wisdom so they could stand strong.

In man's conventional wisdom we see our reading of God's Word and the study of God's Word as a person being one-up on others. The only problem with this picture is we still keep God's wisdom at arm's length because we convince ourselves that just "reading" the Bible is enough. But to realize wisdom from God's Word is where we grow. We grow in this intimate relationship made possible by Jesus and draw closer to the God of the universe.

To not desire this closer relationship would be like me settling for a beat up Volkswagen Bug when I am offered a Jaguar F-Pace. God is offering it to you and me RIGHT NOW!! God desires for us to know Him better and we forget that He is offering us the wisdom of the universe which is light!!! As the scripture in Ephesians says "this light gives us a confident hope." We need some hope don't we? When the light is turned on in our spirits the incredible greatness of God power kicks in and this power is unlimited because it is the power of the resurrection!! And you know how powerful that is! A.W. Tozer was a mighty man of God and a mighty man of understanding God's wisdom and here is a quote from him and his wisdom about God. Tozer wrote Did you ever stop to think that God is going to be as pleased to have you with Him in Heaven as you are to be there? To me this quote says it all. God wants us to know Him deeper and as the Psalmist wrote. Deep calls to deep. Psalm 42:7Deep calls unto deep at the noise of Your waterfalls; All Your waves and billows have gone over me.

When we commit a deeper walk with God, His great, powerful truth will wash over us and encompass us with a depth of understanding that gives us hope in the worst of times. I need that and I know you do too, so lets commit to keep seeking God and He will be found. Jeremiah 29:13 says a lot about this. This is God speaking through Jeremiah to all of us who are believers. Jeremiah 29:13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

The Pilgrimage continues.....
