The Lamp for My Feet

Psalm 119:105 says 105 Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path. We are all walking somewhere, either spiritually or physically, and it is easy at times to stumble. God's Word is the lamp that shows those things that could make us stumble so we can avoid. Man's common sense cannot hold a candle against God's Word and the perfect enlightenment we get from it.

If you are following Jesus, the Holy Spirit continually draws you into a walk that is looking to Jesus and His Word for living. God's Word not only gives us direction, but God gives us grace when we fail to keep us walking forward and growing. Proverbs shows us the difference between following the way of God's Word or the way of human reasoning in Proverbs 4:18 The way of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, which shines ever brighter until the full light of day.19 But the way of the wicked is like total darkness. They have no idea what they are stumbling over. Just so we are clear, "We want to follow the way of the righteous." God's Word shines on the correct path to go.

Jesus presents a way to enter God's kingdom, and He states that the gate to that life is narrow. Only one way to heaven, and that is by faith in Jesus alone. The world says there are many ways. We need to fine-tune our lives by allowing God's Word to fine-tune our foundation in life. Many Christians today live off of man-made traditions. Manmade traditions may have some of the Word of God, but when run through a humanistic filter, they lose some of the focus intended in the verses. Our old nature is always trying to "hedge" on God's Word, and to do that makes the perfect Word less than perfect or flawed. The light on our path begins to lose some of its power when we inject our own thinking into what the Word is saying. The scripture in Matthew 7 has some "power words" that do not need to be missed. Words like only, broad, and narrow. To leave out these words will lessen the effect on our thinking and thus lessen the effect these words have on our lives. Matthew 7:13 “You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. 14 But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it.

When we choose the narrow path it opens up to a whole new way of thinking and that thinking needs to be based on God's Word, not our impressions. Different denominations die on their hills of their impressions of what God's Word says. Still, in reality, all believers have the Holy Spirit and can come up with their interpretation of the Word as led by the Holy Spirit. When we go through that narrow gate, we open up a whole new understanding of life, which must be lived by what the Word of God says. As a warning, the writer of Proverbs also writes in Proverbs 14:12 There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death. We are blind to the truth without the Word of God. Study God's Word, and a whole new level of reasoning and living will be shown when He lights your path. His way is the best way. The Lamp is For My Feet!!
