We have a lot of hedging on things, and that hedging seems to be sending some followers of Jesus down the wrong path. King David was a man after God's own heart, and when he asked God what to do, God told him. I like that kind of personal relationship we have with Almighty God, creator of the Universe. But, because of Jesus, our relationship with God is even closer and more personal. The Apostle Paul wrote to the church in Rome about how personal this relationship is in Romans 8:15 So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” Jesus further speaks to how close we are to God in John 14: 15 “If you love me, obey my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. 17 He is the
The Holy Spirit IS God, and He lives in all born-again believers! King David consulted with God in planning on a battle in the town of Kielah, and here is that interchange between Him and God. 1 Samuel 23:1 One day news came to David that the Philistines were at Keilah stealing grain from the threshing floors. 2 David asked the Lord, “Should I go and attack them?” “Yes, go and save Keilah,” the Lord told him. 3 But David’s men said, “We’re afraid even here in Judah. We certainly don’t want to go to Keilah to fight the whole Philistine army!” 4 So David asked the Lord again, and again the Lord replied, “Go down to Keilah, for I will help you conquer the Philistines.”5 So David and his men went to Keilah. They slaughtered the Philistines and took all their livestock and rescued the people of Keilah. 6 Now when Abiathar son of Ahimelech fled to David at Keilah, he brought the ephod with him.Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.
Another time, King David consulted God about what to specifically do about some raiders who had taken their families in Ziklag, and God answered. 1 Samuel 30: 1 Three days later, when David and his men arrived home at their town of Ziklag, they found that the Amalekites had made a raid into the Negev and Ziklag; they had crushed Ziklag and burned it to the ground. 2 They had carried off the women and children and everyone else but without killing anyone. 3 When David and his men saw the ruins and realized what had happened to their families, 4 they wept until they could weep no more. 5 David’s two wives, Ahinoam from Jezreel and Abigail, the widow of Nabal from Carmel, were among those captured. 6 David was now in great danger because all his men were very bitter about losing their sons and daughters, and they began to talk of stoning him. But David found strength in the Lord his God. David knew he could trust God even with the specifics, and He did, and God led him through many battles and life challenges. King David had no problem after a victory saying, "God did it" because he knew first-hand that God did do it.
Are you trusting God with the specifics in your life? Then let Abba Father get personal with you about your faith walk and see what He tells you, and you will find Him very involved in your life.
