Sermon on the Mount - Salt and Light

Without Jesus in our lives, we have no real depth. But with Jesus, we have salt, and salt preserves, salt creates thirst, and salt cleanses as well. Responding to the change Jesus has in our lives helps us realize there is more to my faith walk than me! Jesus wants to work a great work in my life, and in that work, others' lives will be changed and hopefully drawn to salvation. Jesus made the point of Him working through us in Matthew 5: 13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by people. 14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; 15 nor do peoplelight a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Your light must shine before people in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

There is a result to our faith, and that result is so that others can come to know Jesus also. His light cannot be put away, but it can be amplified in our lives, and that will be seen in our growth in our faith walk. There is so much Jesus wants to show us in order for His light to be seen in our lives, and He shows us that through His Word. The Sermon on the Mount is not just a story about Jesus teaching His disciples on a hillside. The Sermon on the Mount is the foundational teaching for each of us to grow in our faith walk and then walk in the direction Jesus wants us to go. He did not say if, but we are Salt and Light. When we are born again, this is part of the new birth we experience, so get to know it by studying these great verses and seeing your identity in Jesus.
