More Human Than We Ought To Be

Early in my ministry calling I was approached by a man who wanted to share with me what he thought was a dangerous teaching called humanism. I was so entrenched in my own personal beliefs, that I discounted what he said and passed it off as a crazy way of thinking. Time warp ahead to present day and I realize that man was being very prophetic in sharing that with me. Truth is, what he was telling me made me feel very uncomfortable because I didn’t see it and couldn’t believe our world had become this bad. I was wrong….DEAD WRONG!! The dead part was me not being open to a word of wisdom this man had revealed to me through his study of God’s Word. To this day, I wish I would have listened with an open heart and mind. Humanism is what we have today as a prevailing attitude in the world, and yes, in the church, in some ways. You can see evidence of it everywhere and it is now the war cry of every fringe group in the world. You can see the definition in the opening words of this blog and clearly see it is “who we are.” It has taken many years for this teaching to penetrate the lives of Jesus followers, but it is there and it is strong. Our secular universities in America have succumbed to this very dangerous way of thinking and even Christian Seminaries are sinking more and more into this version of “right.” But this is a call to think openly about what God’s Word is trying to tell those who call the name of Jesus and believe in Him for salvation and life-changing wisdom.
Proverbs 14:12 There is a way which seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death. The first 11 verses of this proverb deal with the wise versus the foolish and how knowledge without God’s spirit is not true knowledge. In other words, counterfeit!! We have been sold a load of bad goods packaged in a package called “higher learning.” In reality, many of the universities that were established as Christian Universities in their inception moved away from teaching a Christian perspective on pure knowledge years ago and the lure of human knowledge has taken us down a dangerous path and we are reaping the results of this erroneous teaching. It should be no surprise when we see college students wanting their cake and wanting to eat it too. They are learning from the polished teaching of humanism at the “highest” level of understanding in our country and trusting that source for real wisdom has sold them a “bill of goods.”
This “bill of goods” should not be bought by true believers who trust the Lord for their standard of living Proverbs 2:6 says, 6 For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding. WHO? THE LORD AND HIM ONLY!!! Do you want to know how to live your life? Then go to the source….GOD! James 1:5 says it well
5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
So what needs to happen? We need to quit following the world’s teaching like little dumb sheep and begin using God’s Word as our compass for making decisions. The world will always fall short in being something you can rely on because the world is EVIL. Ephesians 5:15-16 Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. When Paul wrote to the church at Ephesus he was writing as a spiritual father who wanted to give them the best advice possible and that verse says it all. Here is how God’s wisdom pool will refresh your dry heart and minds when you drink from it. The writer of proverbs says it this way Proverbs 19:The one who gets wisdom loves life; the one who cherishes understanding will soon prosper.
Larson wrote” Wisdom is the reward you get for a lifetime of listening when you would have preferred to talk.” Time to listen up and be real and put God back on the wisdom throne of your life and see the world for what it really is. Take the veil off of your eyes and see things for how they really are and God will fill you with all the answers for life that you can handle…and even more. We are humans, but different creatures because of the Holy Spirit indwelling in our lives.
The Pilgrimage continues….
