Keep On Truckin

Updated: Jan 5, 2021

Micah 6:8 O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you:

to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.

NFL games are so predictable aren't they? A team gets ahead by a couple of touchdowns in the first half and then they go into this "bend don't break" defense and the other team drives down the field because the defensive backs have slacked off and they score. Meanwhile, the team that is leading decides they want to go conservative on play calling and they run the ball straight up the middle, straight into the strength of the other teams defense and then they have to punt. After many more plays we get to the fourth quarter and it is basically neck and neck. WHAT HAPPENED!! The team that got ahead decided to take it easy and not make any big mistakes and they let the other team back in the game and boom, they lose. This happens in almost every game I watch and it is really a good lesson on how NOT to live our lives. Don't let the enemy back in the game!!

As Christians we must realize the victory has already been recorded and Jesus defeated death, hell, and the grave. So that resurrection power is available for us and the game plan is fullproof, yet we still doubt and lay back and miss opportunities for sharing the gospel in more effective ways to reach more people for Jesus. We become poor finishers and ignore God's plan for action because we take our hand off the plow and look back at what we have done. Jesus spoke to this very thing in Luke 9: 62 But Jesus told him, “Anyone who puts a hand to the plow and then looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God.” As we grow in our faith we will realize many personal victories as the Holy Spirit leads us to a whole new realm of thinking and living, but we never should go into a "bend don't break" mentality and allow the old nature to come back into prominence in our lives.

According to the Micah 6:8 scripture the Lord has told us what is good and what is required of us. Here it is: Do what is right. Love Mercy. Walk humbly with God. We sometimes forget that God wants us to walk with Him and thus win victory after victory in our personal life. A gossip becomes an encourager for holding their tongue. A liar becomes an advocate for pure truth. An alcoholic becomes an encourager for leaving the excesses of life behind. And this story goes on and on as we walk with God and find out just how much God wants to empower us with His plan to live a vibrant Spirit-filled life of victory. But, never let down. Never let down. God's Word is so encouraging and in Galatians 6:9 Paul writes 9 So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.

God has a great gameplan for each of us if we will just "listen" a little bit more. The prophet Jeremiah prophesied this in Jeremiah 29:11For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. You may feel like this will never happen in your life, but it will. Paul wrote to the church at Philippi and told them that our strength comes from the most powerful source of strength in the universe. Philippians 4:13 For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.

So, it is possible to win the first half and the last half and keep the enemy at bay as we do it because God goes before us clearing the path of righteousness. Psalm 139:5 You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. God is in the mix and we should be confident in His presence and power and live that life of victory. Deuteronomy 20:4 For the Lord your God is going with you! He will fight for you against your enemies, and he will give you victory!’ Keep on winning one game after the other and see lives changed as God rewards your faithfulness. JUST DO IT!! Keep on Truckin!!

The Pilgrimage continues.....
