Jesus, Our Rescuer

Are the waves growing stronger in your life? Are you on a tempestuous sea of hurt and heartache? Jesus, our rescuer, is the one who controls those waves and even walks on them in the midst of the storm. All we need to do is step out of the boat and walk to Him and with Him, and He will quiet the storms because He is the God of all comfort. Paul wrote this to the church believers in Corinth, and it helps us today. 2 Corinthians 1:All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.

There ARE storms. It is just how life is going to be. We cannot steer our lifeboat around them, but Jesus walks with us on the turbulent waves of life with the hope and strength we need to make it to the other side. This is not just "religious talk", but it is the reality of who Jesus is and what He will do. In Mark we read how Jesus came at just the right time to help the disciples in the boat, and they needed Him. So He was there at just the right time walking on the water. Mark 6: 48 He saw that they were in serious trouble, rowing hard and struggling against the wind and waves. About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. He intended to go past them, 49 but when they saw him walking on the water, they cried out in terror, thinking he was a ghost.

So where was Jesus when He got that 3am call? He was walking on the waves of the storm and ready to help. Scripture says He intended to go on past their boat; they saw Him walking on the water, and here is what happened next. Mark 6:50 They were all terrified when they saw him. But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage! I am here!” 51 Then he climbed into the boat, and the wind stopped. They were totally amazed. What did Jesus say? DON'T BE AFRAID.

There are so many times in my life when the storms are overwhelming and the waves are too much for me and I call out to Jesus and beg Him to step into the middle of my situation and calm the waves. Guess what? HE DOES!! I wrote a song about needing Jesus, my rescuer and some of the lyrics are listed below.

Daylight turns to darkness, and the clouds have reappeared. Stretching my emotions as tragedy draws near. A heart once full of hope is empty now, so far from you.  So far from you The mirror shows me something is so wrong How much longer can this life go on Without the strength that comes from You How long, how long You have calmed the sea with Your own hand And turned a heart of stone into a loving man You have fed the hungry, You made the blind to see But now I’m asking You to set me free…rescue me.    Rescue me

Perhaps you will discover the reality of the storm chaser/storm controller Jesus as He ministers hope in your situation. When He walks on the waves, there is no other thought than "Jesus is here, and all is well." Jesus, our rescuer.....

The Pilgrimage Continues,
