Foundation (def) -the lowest load-bearing part of a building, typically below ground level. In a world where everyone has their opinion, it is great to know that some things are just "base" level truth. One of those base level truths is found in 1 Corinthians 3:11 For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. No surmising. No beating around the proverbial bush. No denying. Can you see it? There is no other foundation to be laid, except Jesus Christ.
When moving into my new office at the church where I serve I started with a clean slate, and clean shelves. All the books from the former worship pastor were gone and I got to start fresh and my first order of business was to make sure I loaded those shelves in the way that helps me do my ministry. So I stepped back from the first shelf and realized a way to organize my books for easy access and proceeded to load my books on the shelf. Reference books on the bottom shelf and then next shelf up I put my favorite authors, and then, at face level, I put my many Bible translations, and then up from them my commentaries, and so on. I thought I had this way of loading my shelves down to the science I wanted it to be.....for good. After about two months I began to get the itch to move things around. Yep. I am one of those types. So I pull out some of the books from one shelf and reload them in another shelf and at the end of the day I thought that is good. Only to realize a little later "here I go again."
To the point, yes please. My point is, a foundational way of doing things is much more detailed than I could ever realize!! To do something so complete it never needs to change is beyond me and of course, you too! The above definition says it well that at the very base of anything is the foundation and it is typically below ground, where it is not even noticed until it starts to fail. But when the foundation begins to fail we notice it. At the very base level of our faith we see there is a foundation and that foundation is Jesus. The 1 Corinthians scripture above gives us a firm statement of truth that cannot be avoided. If we build our foundation on any other thing or person other than Jesus Christ, we will begin to see we have a temporary foundation that is gonna fail. Jesus will not fail. Did you get that? Jesus will not fail.
And if we think we have made Him our foundation but we haven't then we will see quickly that our faith is weak and there will be cracks in our life. In Matthew 7 Jesus compared two foundations and the scripture goes like this. 24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock.25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock.26 Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand.27 The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall.”
In America our leadership has made a change in what kind of foundation we are going to build our country on and changed from Almighty God to humanism, which is dangerous. And we are seeing the effect of what changing that foundation can do. That is why most people feel like we are flailing around.... because we are. We seem to have left the solid rock foundation and traded it for a sandy ground that is shifting and uneasy, and most of all, without God. Well, the rains are falling and the floods are here, and the winds are blowing. You read the rest at the end the verse. I may not be very intelligent at times, but the foundation of my life knows ALL and He is ABSOLUTE!! I'm sticking with HIm.
The great thing about Jesus is He ministers to the individual and our relationship with Him should encourage us that when these outside influences hit against us we have Him as the solid rock and we will be able to withstand the onslaught. So don't take one move to the sandy land the world offers and stay on Jesus, our foundation and you will stand in the storms of life. As the church we are to base our faith on Jesus the rock and He will lead us through the storms of life and hold us together. GUARANTEED!! Jesus is our Rock!
