God is Good All the Time

ree

If you come up to a born again believer and say the words "God is good", they will usually say "All the time!" We love singing the praise song Goodness of God in the churches I have served and it is a great song. Sometimes I feel like we sing it as a realization in our hearts that God "has" been good to us, but in reality the goodness of God is evident and very "present." Has God been good to you today? Yes. Because He is the essence of goodness. Jesus said this to the rich young ruler when the young man addressed Jesus in greeting by calling Him "good teacher", to which Jesus replied "Only God is good! What does God do with His goodness? He blesses His children. James wrote in James 1:17 about where those gifts come from and that they are "good" gifts.

James 1:17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. Just some thoughts about what the good is James is talking about. First of all, it is GODS good, not ours. When God blessess His children that blessing it beyond compare and beyond our expectations, because we think with human thoughts and not heavenly thoughts. Believe me when I say "God wants to bless us." This is not a prosperity gospel thing, it is a God thing and He is still on His throne. Make sure He is on the throne of your heart so you will keep on believing He does "God things."

Second, He gives good things and perfect gifts. Have you ever had the "perfect gift?" Probably not. You may have thought "This gift is perfect. Just what I needed." If it so good then it is well thought out and super sensitive to your needs and yes, wants. Scripture says God is like that to His children. If you are born again then you are one of His children. He is Abba Father or daddy to you whether you realize it or not. God will give the "perfect" gift if we will ask. Look at what Jesus said in Luke 11:“So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, it will be opened. 11 Now which one of you fathers will his son ask for a fish, and instead of a fish, he will give him a snake? 12 Or he will even ask for an egg, and his father will give him a scorpion? 13 So if you, despite being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?” Do you think Jesus was "kidding around?" The Words of Jesus in the Word of God are true and real, just believe and God will come through every time because as it says in the James scripture "there is no variation or shifting shadow."

Time to believe the Word of God and it will be the first step to finding God's will for your life. Do you tremble at the power of God? If not, why not? Paul wrote this to the church at Philippi in Philippians 2:12 So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who is at work in you, both to desire and to work for His good pleasure. Obey the Word of the Lord and trust in His goodness and God will come through again and again. Believe it! Paul's writing to the church in Philippi is so real and poignant and in Philippians 4 Paul continues to show where these blessings from God come from. Philippians 4: 18 But I have received everything in full and have an abundance; I am amply supplied, having received from Epaphroditus what you have sent, a fragrant aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God. 19 And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. 20 Now to our God and Father be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Don't add your human reasoning into the above verses or you will miss "the point." The point is God is God and He can do anything and He does the unbelievable to bless His children and when He blesses His children we give Him glory and praise as the only one who can do it! Nuff said....
