Calm

Luke 8: 22 Now on one of those days Jesus and His disciples got into a boat, and He said to them, “Let’s cross over to the other side of the lake.” So they launched out. 23 But as they were sailing along He fell asleep; and a fierce gale of wind descended on the lake, and they began to be swamped and to be in danger.24 They came up to Jesus and woke Him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” And He got up and rebuked the wind and the surging waves, and they stopped, and it became calm. 25 And He said to them, “Where is your faith?” But they were fearful and amazed, saying to one another, “Who then is this, that He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him?”
What will make us quit doubting Jesus and how He works in our lives? When he calms the storms we are in as only He can. The boat they were in was about to be swamped, and Jesus is asleep in that boat as all the blustery winds were blowing and about to capsize their boat. The disciples were right to come to Jesus and ask for help, and Jesus calmed the wind and the waves and said the following. "Where is your faith?"
Where is my faith when the wind blows beyond what I can sail, and my ship is about to be capsized? My faith is in Jesus, who is not asleep at the wheel, but watching and responding to calm the storm in my life. Praise God!! Why turn to Jesus? Because He is our only hope when the wind begins to pick up beyond our control. Part of my faith walk is learning to depend on Jesus and trusting what the Word says about Him being an on-time God in every situation. I admit I look at the wind and waves too much and forget to have faith in Jesus handling everything, but it is also a learning process to trust the Master to calm the storm at just the right time.
Is the wind picking up, and do you feel you are about to be swamped in this present situation? Call out to Jesus as Master, and you will see He is watching and brings calm to the storm you are in. Jesus is present and in control, and He is the one we can trust and have faith in to bring the CALM. Remember, Jesus is the one who prompted them to go on the sea. We can trust His direction, and Jesus has not fallen asleep!!
