Our Enemy is Our Friend

In our world of relativism there are many things that can go awry in the kingdom work of dedicated believers.  The desire to be right at all angles of our life and the desire to come out on top are ever present. The life we are supposed to live is to be a mirror image of our Savior, Jesus Christ.  But we get involved in believing that living a compromised, relative life is what God wants us to do.  Somewhere in this desire to live that life we allow mediocrity and pseudo-kindness to lull us to sleep about what we are truly a part of in this whole thing we call The Walk.  We are in a war!  You cannot watch the news very long before realizing that there are those who have  indoctrinated a large part of our population into the belief that radical Islam is not really that bad and that we should just be more understanding.  That belief has caused our nation to become attached to what seems to be a people who want to annihilate those of us who are followers of Jesus Christ.  Our continued denial of the truth of their mission could be the downfall of civilization as we know it.  When those in leadership call us to something that seems good but in the end is very bad, it confuses us and we can become adrift in our passion about who or what to follow.

As believers in Jesus Christ we can also become indoctrinated to follow something that is very bad, thinking it is good.  Just thinking something is good does not make it good though, and looking at things according to the Word of God tends to filter through to the truth.  We can sometimes miss the truth by becoming drunk on our own impressions about something and making decisions apart from God’s Word.   The Apostle Peter spoke to this very subject in his first letter and fifth chapter and eighth verse where he said. 8 Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”  We do have an enemy and He is ever seeking to devour more and more of us as we share the gospel of Jesus Christ.   This enemy is far more cunning than we might have even believed and he works full time to deceive and destroy.  If. you look at it you can see the ways he is deceiving and confusing the children of God and leading them astray.  Here are a few examples:

  1.  Apathy – (def0 lack of interest, enthusiasm, or concern. This is one of the main culprits in the whole picture and the continued apathy of people who are to be burning brightly for our Savior has lessened the power of the church and believers to fight the enemy at hand.  Denominational churches are closing their doors every day due to a lack of interest by those who ARE the church.  In my denomination we even have a doctrine that spurs on apathy and is taught in our seminaries.   What looks like our friend is actually our enemy.

  2. Lack of Faith – We sometimes wonder why we don’t see God move like He used to and then we realize that our faith in God moving is weak at best.  So many believers are scared to believe God can do the extraordinary and don’t call out to him except in a dire emergency.  We fail to teach our children to rely on God’s power and so they live listless lives that have no faith because they can’t see it on the tv or read it in a book.  The only book they need to read to develop their faith is the very book they know little about, the Bible.  The lack of belief in the Word of God by their parents is passed down to them and now they have no power source for handling the rough situations of life.  Our lack of faith in God moving is a shaking fist to the very one we must rely on in every circumstance.  If we can’t trust God in our daily life, then how can we trust Him for eternal life in glory?  Of course, I do trust God for my eternal life and I do trust Him to move right now with His strong hand of power.  But many don’t!  They have turned the truth of God into a fairy tale that is easier to explain and follow.  We serve a radical God and He is not to be reduced to some fairy tale that doesn’t apply any more.  God is real and God is powerful and He is still moving.  Have FAITH!

  3. Conviction – Where is the conviction?  It used to be wrong to be wrong.  When sin is accepted as right and a trending world becomes our standard for living, then we have fallen far from where God wants us to be. The children of Israel just couldn’t keep it together when God was leading them through the desert.  They continually took their eyes off the one in front of them and doubted and lived for their own wants and desires.  God even gave them a cloud to follow to help them stay on track but they still fell “off the wagon” again and again.  We are no different.  God gives us the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us in how to live and we let our minds stray to follow other options that are not of God.  Many denominations have totally kicked the Holy Spirit out of their beliefs and they are dead…dead….dead!  How is that working for you?  Not very good!  John 14:25-26. Jesus said 25 “These things I have spoken to you while abiding with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.  Of course we would kick the Holy Spirit out. He is the one who convicts and comforts and teaches us.  The result of doing that is a group of believers with no conviction of sin and worldliness is the result.  Leave it up to believers to deny the very power source we must have to fight the fight for Jesus.  Our enemy the devil becomes our friend when we deny the Holy Spirit of God!!  You are either following one or the other.  No in betweens.

Of course, there are many other ways the enemy is defeating believers at every turn, but they are too numerous to mention.  Just know this.  We can no longer play games and treat the world like our friend.  The world is our enemy and Jesus is our friend.  We are to go into the world and preach the gospel of Jesus to win the  world and see them saved from this perverse generation. Philippians 2:15 says 5 so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world,

Call out the enemy for who he is.  He is satan and he wants to destroy us.  Time to quit being his friend and be the friend of God that was made possible on the cross.  Time to walk with God and not with satan.  It seems radical, but we serve a radical God.  Serve Him and be a light so others will turn to Him today.

The Pilgrimage continues….
