Looking Up!

Colossians 3: 1Therefore, if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. 3 For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.

In Matthew 22: 37 And He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ When you set your mind on the things above you focus on God Almighty and Heaven. The old saying “They are so heavenly minded that they are no earthly good” can apply here. But not as a negative to the point. Harvest pastor Greg Laurie says that sometimes people can be so “earthly minded that they are no heavenly good.” I tend to agree with him.

The world and all it has to offer is “weak at best” and our heavenly destination gives us a much better perspective on living in this world. We are IN the world, but when we are born again we are no longer OF the world.” Jesus was saying in John 16:13-16 that his disciples (that’s you and me) are in the world but not of the world. Jesus went on to say that He sanctified Himself so we might be sanctified with His truth. Don’t miss that statement!! Our heavenly mindedness comes from a pure source and that source is Jesus. The Holy Spirit in our life connects with Jesus in that heavenly perspective and our thinking begins to change…..DRASTICALLY!! We begin to “walk with God” in a deeper walk that levels us up in our faith and then God begins to use us in ways we never thought possible. All of this is for His glory!!!

What I am saying is we begin to Look Up more. We look up in our times of prayer, thus deepening our prayer relationship with God. We look up in our times of need and trust Him to supply, and begin to fear less about the unknown of this world, because we have the KNOWN of heaven in our mind!! We look up in our worship because we have a strong connection from our mind to the Lord that is deepened by a heartfelt walk that is growing from our time in God’s Word. We look up because up is better than down!! Scripture says it this way in Isaiah 40: 31 Yet those who wait for the Lord Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary.

The following “eagle information” will drive home the point of looking up and then soaring like an eagle!!

Though many of us have seen pictures of a huge eagle's nest high in the branches of a tree or in the crag of a cliff, few of us have gotten a glimpse inside. When a mother eagle builds her nest she starts with thorns, broken branches, sharp rocks, and a number of other items that seem entirely unsuitable for the project. But then she lines the nest with a thick padding of wool, feathers, and fur from animals she has killed, making it soft and comfortable for the eggs. By the time the growing birds reach flying age, the comfort of the nest and the luxury of free meals make them quite reluctant to leave. That's when the mother eagle begins "stirring up the nest." With her strong talons she begins pulling up the thick carpet of fur and feathers, bringing the sharp rocks and branches to the surface. As more of the bedding gets plucked up, the nest becomes more uncomfortable for the young eagles. Eventually, this and other urgings prompt the growing eagles to leave their once-comfortable abode and move on to more mature behavior.

Maybe God is stirring up the nest you are in and He is saying “Look Up,” and then “Fly out of that nest!!”
