Keep Moving Forward

2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. To "fight the good fight" means a lot in many different areas. The fight we fight might be for sharing the gospel as commanded by Jesus. It might mean being a soldier that stands and fights for the gospel. It could mean a person who takes up their cross every day and follows Jesus. And it could mean, join the fight club.....NO NOT REALLY1

What is the "good fight?" Every day we are in a battle and in that battle, we need to come down on the side of the Lord every time. Coming down on the side of the Lord means we submit to His will and His way and dedicate our lives to growing in His grace, and live in freedom because of that grace. His grace compels us to draw closer to Him in a relationship through His Word and through spending time alone with Him. Bible Study and prayer can never be minimized at any juncture of our walk. These two things deepen our relationship with our Father and cause life change at our core.

What holds back that growth many times is the desire to do things my own way and call it fighting the fight. But is it really? I think not. Proverbs 14 has a warning for trying to do things our own way and in verse 12 it says 12 There is a path before each person that seems right, but it ends in death. Apart from Christ, we can do nothing. John 15:5 “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.

We fight the good fight when we are connected to the vine and from that vine we get our direction, our power, our strength, and God's will. Tap into the vine which is Jesus and you will see life from a different perspective. Remember, when Jesus was carrying the cross up the Vio Dolorosa He kept going on to His crucifixion. Jesus kept "moving forward." So should we also.
